Penetration testing, often known as ethical hacking, is the process of lawfully breaking into computers and other electronic devices to find security holes and weaknesses that a malevolent attacker could exploit to steal data, cause financial loss, or create other significant harm. They can strengthen defences to better fend off or withstand attacks. Copies of hostile attackers' strategies and behaviours constitute an ethical hack.
